Prescribing Support Services (PSS) provides services to Primary Care Trusts and Commissioning groups in:
- Bradford Airedale Teaching PCT
- Leeds PCT
- United Commissioning, Buckinghamshire
PSS is a partnership run by Dr Duncan Petty and Su Wood. The partnership has been providing services to primary care since 2000.
The Team
Dr Duncan Petty - PhD, Dip Clin Pharm, BPharm MRPharmS-IP
A founding partner with a long history of primary care pharmacy. Previously Duncan was the Pharmaceutical Adviser at Leeds Health Authority and worked for the Prescribing Support Unit. He is currently Chairman of the Primary Care Pharmacists’ Association and has a long-standing interest in education and research. Duncan is also a research pharmacist and lecturer at Leeds University.
Su Wood - MPharm, Dip Presc Man, BPharm MRPharmS-IP
A founding partner, Su has worked in primary care since 2000 with a particular interest in elderly care; her independent prescriber area of expertise is renal impairment. Previously Su worked at Leeds General Infirmary and was the first Elderly Care pharmacist there. She is about to embark on planning for research work with the aim of achieving a PhD.
Dr Caroline Dixon - PharmD, DipClinPharm, BPharm MRPharmS-IP
Caroline has been working with Duncan and Su, in Primary Care, since 2002. She has previously worked in both NHS and private hospitals and does occasional Community and Hospital based locums. Caroline has recently completed the Leeds University Supplementary and Independent Prescribing course, with a special interest in Hypertension. She is hoping to set up anticoagulant clinics in Primary Care following the completion of the London Anticoagulant Course and PCT Accreditation.
David Loach - Masters/ Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, BPharm MRPharmS-IP
David has been a Pharmacy Manager for a busy community pharmacy for 14 yrs. For the last 6 years he has also been the Practice Pharmacist for the local medical practice. He recently qualified as an Independent prescriber with an interest in Hypertension. He has also set up a practice Drug Formulary and ran successful benzodiazepine/sleep and pain clinics. As pharmacy manager he has a special interest in Medication Use reviews, Diabetes, CHD, Medicines management and Drug misuse. He is also a Pre Registration Pharmacist tutor.
Clarence Ricketts - MPharm BPharm MRPharmS-IP
Clarence is a Community Pharmacist with an interest in Primary Care and Prescribing Support and continual professional development. He is an Independent prescriber.
Berny Hutton - Dip Clin Pharm BPharm MRPharmS-IP
Berny has 23 years experience in Community pharmacy as Manager and Locum and 8 Years in experience as a practice pharmacist. She is a qualified independent prescriber.
Beryl Handley - AMSPAR diploma in Practice Management.
Beryl was a practice manager for 18 years in
General Practice and in 2005 took up the position of Pharmacy Support Assistant with Duncan and his Team.
Claire Standage - Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, Cert in Health Promotion, Cert in Counselling and Interpersonal Skills BPharm MRPharmS
Claire has a long standing interest in Medication Review. Her previous jobs include; research pharmacist at The University of Leeds investigating Medication Errors in Care Homes; domiciliary medication review pharmacist for East Leeds Intermediate Care Team, and hospice pharmacist at St Gemmas and Wheatfields Hospice.
Fiona Burns - MPharm, MRPharmS-IP
Fiona has a background in community pharmacy but while implementing enhanced services in a shop in South Yorkshire discovered her passion for using her clinical skills. In 2007, she was nominated as a "Pharmacy Champion" and featured in the Chemist and Druggist magazine. She went on to study the Supplementary Prescribing course in 2007 and then the Independent Prescribing course in 2008 and ran a hypertension clinic in South Yorkshire. A finalist for the Chemist and Druggist Awards "MUR Champion of the Year" in 2008 followed and more recently she undertook an anti-coagulant training course and will be running Warfarin clinics soon, increasing patients access and convenience.
